Is There Too Much Information Available?

In the past, life was much simpler, but in today's technologically charged world, we are constantly bombarded with information overload. True, there are some really important and good details existing, and on the flip side of that coin, there, too, is trash. It is enough to break anyone down to feel lesser of him or her self because of what is out there. Our spirits are strong, but our bodies are weak.

Thus, as an information scientist I'm constantly dealing with the junk inclusive of spam, pages of advertisements, terrible design aesthetics, and epileptic seizure producing websites. It is horrible with all the detrimental particulars that are out there, from pornographic material to extremism in any field. In regard to these fields and sub-fields, everyone seems to have a cause to exceedingly support. Thank goodness for filtering programs and parental controls. We try our best to protect those that we love.

Another problem with so much data getting 'ground out' every day is security. On the Internet, there is a war going on between good and evil, as in life. Malevolent hackers are continually fighting the knowledge and training of white hat hackers with viruses, worms, Trojans, malware, and other malicious software. Newly compromising applications and programs can easily clear out secure databases of personal statistics and finances with the click of a mouse from one unsuspecting administrator, which can spread like wildfire sometimes. Those that are given the greater authority and responsibilities sometimes create the greatest risks.

In the bigger picture, we have to look at all of this and know that there, too, is a lot of good and honest data available. It includes educational and skill-building software as well as problem-solving detailed programs for benefiting our world and mankind. Both art and science have merged into three-dimensional modeling with added depth and visualization techniques. The human brain is one of the most significant and important functioning organisms in the universe. The mind is the final frontier and not space.

I tend to look at all of this information with an optimistically balanced-brain viewpoint. There is an ingrained knowledge and understanding of whom is going to win this war overall in the end. It is a life we all try to achieve for the common good or in respect of the golden rule. People either base their thoughts and actions from religious or scientific beliefs thus bringing conflicts between themselves.

Take The Strain Of Your IT Infrastructure With Hosted Services

Do you sometimes struggle to get the support you need from your internal IT department?

Signing up for Hosted Services will mean that you still have access to a fully supported energy monitoring application over the internet without the need for local installation, backup or the consequential IT constraints, therefore the strain is taken off your servers, allowing them to concentrate on the essential needs of your business.

Using a service like this allows you to use the energy monitoring software in exactly the same way as you would locally but benefit from high performance hardware and high support availability of a hosted service.

Benefits of this service include:

  • Increased data processing capacity through a high specification server

  • Allowing you to use the optimum set-up for the energy monitoring application

  • Less of a reliance on local or outsourced IT support and backup

  • Direct access to the software's support team if required

  • Free software updates (carried out for you by the support team)

  • Ability to access your data from outside your corporate network using a secure connection

  • Option to take advantage of the software's Premium Maintenance and Support Services

The energy management software and database are set-up on a secure high-speed server.

You connect to the secure host server using a URL similar to a website address. To log into the energy management software from any computer you need to use a Windows application called Remote Desktop. All processing utilises a powerful server and a high-speed internet connection (10Mbit) which ensures fast access to your energy data.

Just like when you run the software off your own local server you can have multiple users simultaneously accessing the system. As with the locally run access to your energy management system, this is password controlled and for added security and you can also choose to only allow specific IP addresses to log in.

The benefit of using this service for your energy consumption and monitoring is support staff can log into the software directly to provide a more hands-on support service if required. This includes carrying out regular database health checks and maintenance work if required.

If you are already using the energy monitoring Software in your organisation your existing database can be easily transferred to the secure server.

The hosted servers are situated in a purpose-built data centre with top-level security (T4) where access is only provided to authorised IT personnel.

The site provides a managed uninterrupted power supply and two back-up generators with 30 hours of fuel on-site for 100% uptime. Two back-up internet connections ensure that access is guaranteed.

Automatic backups are ran to ensure your database is protected against loss of data. Optional regular encrypted backups of the database can be provided on DVD if required.

Process Drives Predictable Results, Lower Risk and Costs

In the recent article Ebola Shows It Is Process-Not Technology-That Will Protect Us on, Jeanne Roue-Taylor discusses how technology alone is insufficient in controlling the disease. She further discusses how process breakdowns increased the risk of transmission. From Eric Duncan not properly being screened before boarding his plane to his first hospital visit, following a properly planned process could have stopped the subsequent infections, where process again broke down. She concludes that process and not technology will best control the spread of this disease. The same can be said when dealing with any issue in business, to achieve success, we need to use technology as a tool to implement well planned process.

Delving into the Ebola comparison further, the CDC underestimated the risk of transmission from the beginning. I believe this caused a false sense of security and possibly contributed to lax safety protocols and a patchwork of standards. In the case of Dr Craig Spencer, who volunteered with Doctors Without Borders in Guinea, he was allowed to self-quarantine. A protocol that he did not adhere to when he used public transportation including the subway and Uber. Subsequently, the bowling alley that he visited the night before being diagnosed had to temporarily shut down due to concerns over infection.

Following Spencer's diagnosis, New York and New Jersey felt compelled to institute a mandatory quarantine of all healthcare workers coming from West Africa; a move that is criticized as an overreaction, uneducated, and political. All may or may not be true, however, time and again it seems that it is human nature to down play or dismiss worst case scenarios until either they actually happen or we catch a glimpse of what may happen that scares us into action. The natural response is to then overcompensate in the effort to both "learn from our mistakes" and show others that we are now taking proper action.

In the business world and life in general, the concept of process is a boring and unpopular topic. Nevertheless, when we view proper planning and implementation of process as integral to our success, mishaps, unexpected outcomes and unforeseen risks are minimized and ultimately avoided. In our business, the smallest step skipped can result in time spent resolving avoidable issues later which result in unexpected costs, downtime and customer dissatisfaction. I do not know the price tag for the treatment the infected patients and sterilization of their homes and the venues they visited. I would be willing to gamble that proper training, planning and implementation of process and safety protocols would have been less costly and controversial. As in the case of Ebola in the US and even minor everyday tasks, technology can make us more efficient but, without process, the results cannot be accurately predicted.

Technically It's a Technical Translation

One of the things that can confuse even the greatest minds are technical translation. Mobile game apps are usually the most difficult to translate due to its specialised terminology. However, there are many translation services with quality translation tools combined with real human translators, who are more than happy to professionally translate any of your apps, games or websites.

I Just Want My Game Translated

If you're thinking about having your game translated, then might I suggest you decide on which language you'd want translated first. This is probably the most fundamental part of your project especially if you're thinking about going international with it. Once you've decided which language you want translated then you're already half way there.

Don't Go Down that Slippery Slope

The next step is actually finding a good translation service, who can assist you on your every needs. Literally. When something doesn't quite translate, we'd immediately know there's a fatal error and finding a solution can take a while. Meaning, finding a professional translation service is a MUST. It will definitely save you time and cost, unless you've just got money to burn!

My Translation Brings All the Boys to the Yard

Who remembers back in the mid 90s where dubbed films were pretty 'interesting', (by that, I really meant it wasn't), but it still kept you hooked even though the translations were awful? Now, you really don't want your audience to comment or complain about terrible subs and dubs on any of your products and don't bother using Babelfish either because that's definitely not going to help. What you need are real professional translators and not some unchecked machine- produced translation. Any bad translation or mistranslation could lead to a lost of trust in your brand and not to mention that the quality of your product will probably be scrutinised and God forbids that your decision in not finding a translator would lead to this humiliating mockery. Get your product localized and you're likely to see a positive outcome.

Just For Fun

One of Japan's famous games: 'Ghosts 'n Goblins' obviously did a wonderful job in their translation. If you're one of the lucky ones who'd managed to have completed the game, then you know what I'm talking about. "Congraturation. The story is happy end" appears after you have completed the game twice. (Yep, twice)!

Lets face it, bad translation was more acceptable back in the days, but now... not so much. It's about time to take translation a lot more seriously and not rely on Google's translation tools either.

Don't Be Cheap!

If you're looking for some of the best translation, then definitely seek a professional translation service, who can provide quality and accurate translation for you.

Ever heard of the saying: "You pay for what you get?" Well, the cheaper the service, the more likely it's going to be some mediocre translation, so you've been warned. Having said that, make sure you're willing to dish the dosh if you really want perfect translation. I'm not saying you'll break your bank, but definitely do your own research and just be prepared to fork out if needs be; since it'll be worth every penny in the long run.

Quad Processor Server: Best for Multitasking Work

This processor was intended for the most recent computers for greatest efficiency whilst maximizing also electricity power saving owing to its advanced feature capability. To begin with, you must make sure the new processor you would like can be used with your present motherboard. A number of affordable quad processor server can be purchased from online stores. This 32-bit processor was the most innovative processor employed in many computers which were manufactured then. There are lots of processors intended for the mid-range user, who wants a workstation, which can take care of lots of multitasking workload.

Rackmount servers are precisely what you should be studying. A lot of these devices, however, come with numerous cores. It is these contemporary low cost servers which may be subject to very higher software license expenses. An advertising department manager reports that the advertising department database has incorrect data. These quad processor servers in comparison to others we've researched are unquestionably the best price. It's important to know why these caches are vital to making your gaming laptop run far better.

AMD is far behind with respect to technology at this time and it's strongly recommended that you go for an Intel processor instead, since it will certainly provide far better performance. Intel delivers several processors that are commonly held to be a number of the greatest CPU's around for PC gaming systems. The motherboard connects the rest of the components to one another, such as, for instance, a brain or heart. Technically however a motherboard is a complicated item of technology which exists in virtually every electronic device. The motherboard is easily the most important part of the computer. Even though most motherboards support just 1 CPU socket, some applications gain from having more than 1 processor to attack the tasks at hand. Chipsets are already embedded into your logic board the majority of the moment, meaning you must select your chipset at precisely the same time you select your processor.

When it isn't then you can either look for a different processor that's compliant, or change out your motherboard with something which's compatible by it. The very first direction targeted at gaming and the way the dual core processor server will improve the gaming the capacity of the computer. Besides, these hexa core processors are inclined to be fiendishly costly.

If you are likely to re-purpose your previous computer parts then there are a couple things you would like to avoid. The computers weren't on the net or a LAN. You will need to choose what sort of computer you desire. Larger computers are usually available with quad cores. If you're re-using your previous computer then you have to strip out many of the extra expansion cards that you've installed over time. The majority of people buying cheap laptops will often need to acquire the very best value for money. For the normal user, obtaining a laptop that isn't too sluggish and that may be on the world wide web is easily the most important thing.

The SMB Owner's Guide to Ensuring Your Success With Hyperconvergence

Hyperconvergence is the newest IT architecture that is removing both cost and complexity from virtualization infrastructure. This article assumes you are aware of the advantages of hyperconvergence and how it applies to the business end of your small to medium business. What we are going to discuss is how to ensure that you are getting the TRUE advantages from Hyperconvergence over what all those fancy marketing papers say you can.

A small to medium business(SMB) doesn't mean just a tiny kiosk in the mall that only has a single POS computer. We're talking about SMB in terms of between 50 to 500 employees with an IT staff of up to 5 full or part-time staffers.

There are a lot of claims out there around hyperconvergence technologies. At the top of the list is reducing costs. Also, it claims to be a simpler environment for your IT staff - increasing productivity. As the business owner, what questions do you need to ask to ensure that your hard-earned capital is well spent?

Among all the claims, there are 5 things that you need to look for in a hyperconverged solution to ensure that your solution brings everything to your business that it can.

Vendors in the solution

One of the claims of hyperconvergence is simplification of the solution. This is potentially achieved by eliminating the multitude of vendors that are part of a traditional virtualized solution. This solution involves how many vendors? Where do the individual responsibilities of each vendor start and stop? Will you need multiple support contracts, or is everything covered under one master contract? Is there a central support number to call, or is there the possibility of finger-pointing between various manufacturers? In this vein, is the solution the intellectual property of one company, or are there different licensing agreements in place? How could this affect YOUR investment in the event of a manufacturer bankruptcy?

The initial install of the solution is probably correctly sized for your business. What happens if you need to expand that installation? If you need more virtual servers, or to add more users, are there going to be any additional license fees (Vmware)? What about yearly maintenance fees, will those grow, too? What if we expand and I want to add virtual servers at another location? Are my licenses "tiered" or do they get more expensive for additional functionality or when I hit a certain license count? These are not necessarily deal-breakers, but fore-warned is fore-armed. It sure helps to have a reliable idea of licensing costs when budget time rolls around.

Hyperconverged solutions come in all shapes and sizes. Different solutions exist for a dozen virtualized servers, and for several hundred virtual servers. Whichever you have is not as important as the answer to the question Is the solution expandable? Does the solution have the ability to cover your business as it grows, without the dreaded "fork-lift upgrade", which means downtime for the profit-centers of your business. In addition to this, if upgrades are possible, do they involve downtime? Can your sales department sell while the upgrades occur?

Sure, everyone will be more than happy to install this beast once you have signed on the dotted line, but just how complex is that installation? Can we operate on the existing systems and minimize downtime while the installation occurs? How complex is the switchover to the new systems (Easily migrating VMs or data)? Can your IT staff shadow the installation? Is it easy enough that they can do it themselves with just a bit of guidance? Can your staff expand the system, or will you need outside help?

Ease of Use

Now that we have it and everything is running, just how difficult is it to get my IT staff up to speed on the product? Is there additional training that will take my staff off site in order to learn how to use this product? Once I train my staff, am I in danger of losing them to a competitor willing to pay more for those certifications? When we add additional virtual servers to the environment, will my staff be able to do that? How difficult is it, and how long will it take? Since my staff isn't as large as some of the big-guys, how difficult is it to cross-train?

Hyperconvergence is an amazing leap forward for IT virtualization. Correctly sized, designed, and implemented it promises a lot to the small to medium business. But like most things in life, one size doesn't necessarily fit all. Spending money wisely requires due diligence. Make sure the business squeezes all of the value that you paid for from this solution. Address the questions around vendors, licensing, systems expandability, installation and ease of use.

Engage with the manufacturers and ask the solutions provider the next step questions addressed in this article. This will ensure that you enjoy the advantages advertised while getting the exact solution to benefit your business NOW.
